ABOUT DR MICHAEL HEYNS
General Surgeon - Netcare Pretoria East Hospital in Pretoria
Dr Michael Heyns was born in Cape Town in 1970. He completed his high school career at Grey College in Bloemfontein and matriculated at this highly acclaimed school in 1987. Dr Heyns then went on to complete his undergraduate medical training at the Free State University obtaining MBChB in 1994. He became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa in 2001 (FCS (SA)).
The Douglas Award for the most outstanding achievement in the final examination of the College of Surgeons of South Africa was awarded to him in Mai 2002. He participated in numerous advanced laparoscopic training course in Europe as well as hosting laparoscopic workshops in South Africa.
Dr Heyns is married to Dr Lizanné Barry, who assists him with all his laparoscopic work as well as sedating the patients in the endoscopic unit. They have two lovely daughters and as a family, they enjoy wildlife photography whilst camping in Africa.
